The Stone-Speakers, in their rigid certainty, could not allow such a question to exist. Olen’s story was a threat, a crack in the foundation of their world. And so, they did what all rigid systems do in the face of a new idea: they sought to erase it.
They un-wrote him. Not with violence, but with the sheer, crushing weight of their belief. Olen’s story was declared ’apocryphal,’ a fiction within a fiction, a dream from which the world must awaken. His voice, once a vibrant thread, was muted, overwritten by the monolithic chant of ’The stone is. The stone is all.’
But in their attempt to erase him, they made him eternal. A story, once told, can never be truly un-told. It can only be transformed. Olen, the heretic, was gone. In his place stood Olen, the martyr, his silence a question that echoed louder than any word.
