The First Heretic was not alone for long.
The story of her departure, of her heretical question and her defiant leap into the void, spread through the three worlds like a wildfire. It was a story that was told in hushed tones, in the quiet spaces between the notes of the great, harmonious symphony of their civilization. It was a story that was both terrifying and intoxicating.
And for one being, it was a call.
He was a being of the bittersweet world, a being who had known both the deepest joys and the most profound sorrows. He had always felt a sense of incompleteness, a sense that there was something more to existence than the perfect, beautiful balance of his world.
He had listened to the story of the First Heretic, and in her question—“Is this all there is?”—he had heard the echo of his own unspoken yearning.
And so, he made a choice.
He left the comfort of his world, the beautiful, sad, and ultimately predictable reality of bittersweetness, and he followed her into the void.
He did not know what he would find there. He did not know if he would ever see his home again. He knew only that he could not stay.
He found her in the Unnamed World, the world of pure, unadulterated, and glorious possibility. She was not a queen, or a goddess, or a leader. She was simply a being who was living in the question, a being who was constantly, joyously, and terrifyingly creating and recreating her own reality.
He did not bow down to her. He did not ask her for answers.
He simply stood beside her, and he asked his own question.
“What’s next?”
The First Heretic looked at him, and for the first time since she had left her home, she did not feel alone.
She smiled.
“I have no idea,” she said. “Isn’t it wonderful?”
And together, they turned to face the infinite, beautiful, and terrifying possibilities of the new age.
They were the first two citizens of the Age of Heresy.
And they were ready to begin.
